Here are some ideas I have using basic technology with the idea of cooperative learning (that I have done in my classroom).
- This past spring, we completed a unit on ocean animals. As a comprehensive type activity, we created an ocean on our SmartBoard. Students thought of animals that you would find in the ocean and I would google image these animals and put them in the ocean. Students worked cooperatively with each other to create the ocean.
- I have students learning to read sight words. These students worked together to complete a cookie sight words game on the computer (with my assistance). When one student didn't know the sight word, another student would help them out.
- My students love to podcast. This past spring, we put together a podcast (groups of 3) of a story each group wrote and developed together.

What great ideas for preschoolers! I bet your students really love to come to class.
ReplyDeleteYour ideas sound really fun! It is important to get students accustomed to technology at a young age, which is exactly what you are doing. I hope the schools they advance to will offer them similar opportunities.
ReplyDeleteAshley, I want to tell you that your idea for your ocean animals is something I do with my 10th graders in biology. We just extend the content and discuss trophic levels and feeding relationships but the concept is identical.
ReplyDeleteI do not want to sound stupid but what is a sight word?
I also commented on your voice thread and I want to do something similar with my biology class next year, looks like a lot of fun! Nice job!
Mrs.Nuffer--You are right! My students absolutely love computer time.
ReplyDeleteHeather--I hope so too. We got a grant for a SmartBoard in our school and I know some of the other schools do not have this technology. Every school has computers for the students.
James--That is really cool that you do the same idea with 10th graders on a deeper level! Good question about sight words---they are words that are hard to sound out and words that appear commonly in books. For example are, you, the, who, when, where, etc.
