Goals:
1. I will communicate ideas and information with parents and colleagues using digital media.
2. I will participate in learning communities that will allow me to learn more about using technology with my preschoolers.
· Are you finding the information and resources you need?
I am doing fine with my first goal. I have found a couple of newsletters that I like. I am having trouble with my second goal. I can't seem to find a good learning community that deals specifically with preschool age.
· Do you need to modify your action plan?
. For my second goal, I may need to modify my learning community to using technology with early childhood (grades PK-3).
· What have you learned so far?
I have learned that many teachers have websites/blogs out there for parents and colleagues.
· What new questions have arisen?
For my first goal I am questioning if I should do a blog or a website. I thought I would be doing a blog, but now I am not sure. What are the advantages/disadvantages between a blog or website?
I have found that a website works best for my classroom. Students and parents alike appreciate a well-organized clutter free website that allows them to "quickly" find the information they seek. I have been able to eliminate 99% of handouts that never make it home anyway. My parents and students are so accustomed to looking at my calendar for event details. If I fail to update it in a timely manner, I will hear about it from them. I feel a blog is for two away communication and a website is more for informative means. Best wishes in your choice of medium. I will say, I do have a blog within my website if I ever choose to incorporate it into my instruction or communication efforts.
ReplyDeleteBlog versus Website?
ReplyDeleteI would have to say website. I have had a website for the past 4 years and it has always allowed for a blog. Do you have a Google account? I recently got one and this is another good idea. I keep my Gmail separate from my school email and I am slowly discovering the great benefits of a Google account and how much it will help address many educational needs for teachers and students. I teach math for grades 9-12 and I feel this will be as beneficial for you in the pre-school as it is for me in the high school. At least for participating in learning communities.
Thank you for both of your ideas! I am looking in to Google Sites to create a classroom website. I will let you know how it goes!
